Good Product With A Big Flaw
By M. McDonough
Nice, sturdy winch but the hook opening is far too small and the safety latch on the hook will not close. I've seen this in other reviews as well. Sounds like something that the company should fix.

Reversible handle (can be moved to other side)
This winch can be reversed to place the handle on the opposite side. It's a very simple job, should take you about 15-20 minutes. You'll need a pair of pliers (for the ratchet clip), a 3/4" or 19mm socket (one socket and socket or crescent wrench) for each side of the main drum and a 13mm socket (9/16" socket) for the ratchet pin. Take the drum off first, then unwind and rewind the strap in the opposite direction. There is a clip that holds the gear shaft in place, use pliers to pull the clip off (you can see it in the close up of the ratchet line, it's on the right side in black). The gear shaft has 2 collars that have a tab to align them up when you flip sides. The ratchet stop clip has to be reversed, so make sure the smoother side is facing toward the plate under the winch. The spring will go into the opposite side. Flip the drum so the gear is now on the same side as the ratchet. Take a few pics as you disassemble it, particularly the ratchet bolt which is the hardest to assemble.

Its sad that I have to give this winch 3 stars out of 5 when there is so many good qualities about this winch, but it doesn't matter how good it is or well its made if the eye on the strap wont fit anything. I have had my boat 3 years and have had to buy 3 new winches now. The good part about that is I have 2 extra straps that fit from the broken winches. I would recommend replacing that strap even if the eye does fit whatever you are using the winch for, especially if it is holding something fairly valuable or heavy. The strap is low quality and I have my doubts that it would last very long. While replacing the strap I spread it out along my boat to get an approximate measurement. The strap is somewhere between 20 to 25 feet long. I attached a picture of the eye so you can try to see if it might fit what you are using it for. If you like me and have an extra strap to replace it with I would recommend this winch. It is about a third larger than the others I have purchased with the same weight rating and appears to be made pretty similar, but the shaft might be a little stronger. The shaft is what broke on my last two so this could be a good thing! If this one breaks I think I will buy a welder next time and just start repairing the shaft on them because its getting fairly expensive, a winch a year adds up. I am not recommending this over others yet, but I will say that it is larger and appears to have a little bit better designed shaft assembly as well. It does not come with bolts to attach it with so if you are replacing an old one keep the bolts and if its your first one then you will need to buy bolts also.
I purchased this product with my own money for my own personal use.
