The file to have
If you're going to have only one hand file, this is the one to have. One side is bastard double cut, the other smooth mill single cut. One edge is cut, the other isn't. What a perfect tool for general purpose sharpening of garden tools, lawn mower blades, knocking an edge of a part, smoothing a freshly cut piece of metal, etc. The handle is a bit small, but I dipped it in some "plasti-dip" and it made it easier and more comfortable to hold, plus it doesn't slip. More and more Nicholson products are being made in Latin America (Brazil, Columbia, Mexico) but this one is still made in USA. Every home should have this file. To extend the life of this or any file, lift it off the part on the return stroke, and don't file sharp corners. Either will rapid dull and/or break the teeth of the file; and use a cheap wire brush to keep it clean and free cutting.

Amazing file. I use it to sharpen my wood scrapers, it makes a very nice edge.

Misleading item description
By Brett A Myers
The description describes this item as "one side for filing, one for smoothing". I expected to receive an item with bastard cut on one side and smooth cut on the other. Instead, the item is actually labeled as "coarse" and "medium". I was specifically looking for smooth cut, and this is not it. I gave the item three stars since I returned it unopened, and can't vouch for its quality. The file might work extremely well, but the description leaves much to be desired.
