When the job calls for performance but onsite power access is uncertain or limited, the 8-pound DeWalt DW999K-2 7/8-inch, 18-volt cordless SDS rotary hammer kit comes through big in the clutch. Part of DeWalt's 18-volt XR battery system, this rotary hammer features two modes--rotation only (for wood and metal drilling) and rotary hammer (for tougher surfaces such as concrete). Switching between modes is easy, as is overall operation. The rotary hammer works well in wood, metal, masonry, plastics, and ceramics. A reversible, variable-speed trigger delivers up to 4,900 bpm at an impact of 1.5 feet/pounds and spins the bit at up to 1,100 rpm. A 360-degree rotating side handle provides added stability and power, for times when you need to lean into a job. An onboard depth rod makes setting and finding a desired depth quick and accurate, and a trigger brake provides added safety. --Carl Thress
