It attaches to the bed of the lathe with mounting brackets that provide both vertical and horizontal adjustment. Duplications are quickly made by locking the cutter in place to rough out the "waster material." For the final pass, the duplicator's spring-loaded stylus follows the profile (either from a template or master turning) and cuts the actual shape. In many cases, the duplicator will work mounted on the back of the lathe, which still allows hand turning from the front of the lathe.
