A Great Tool For Novice and Pro's Alike
By Ben S.
In terms of effort and skill needed, PEX is far easier than copper for plumbing. The only downside is that to get started, you need to have some tools such as a decent cutter for the pex and a good clamp cinching tool. I purchased this tool quite a while ago and its worked well for me thus far. It takes a few attempts to get the feel for it. I typically try to get my clamp where I want it and hold it with one hand, place the tool on the clamp and then try and use my body against one handle while my other hand pushes the opposite way on the other handle. It seems complex but it really isn't. You just have to play around a bit to figure out what works well for you. Unfortunately, you can't simply use this thing with one hand. It requires a lot of force to cinch these clamps down (but not so much that a female couldn't do it). I'd recommend playing around with a few before trying it on your piping so you can get a feel for it ahead of time. It appears that most of the ratchet style cinching devices on the market right now are all the same basic design made overseas with different color handles. Look around and buy one from amazon that's cost effective. Lastly, I recommend using an extra clamp on each side of the line you're clamping if your adapters are long enough. I've never had a clamp fail on me but for a few pennies, I'd rather be safe than sorry. And if you have any doubts if you're using it correctly, go hit some youtube videos for demonstrations.

Will NOT work with Zurn (ACE Hardware) clamps.
By L. Eilander
First, if you're buying this product, it's important to keep this in mind:
This uses PINCH-STYLE pex clamps, NOT the SMOOTH RINGS!
A lot of people complained that setting this up is tricky, but it worked well for me right out of the box.
The tool is well-made, and well-packaged.
I'd love to go ahead and give this 5 stars, but here's the problem...
I originally got the claps for this a Home Depot in town, but I was one clamp short, and ran to my local ACE hardware for some more. BIG MISTAKE! Where HD carried SharkBite brand clamps, ACE carries Zurn brand. These were too wide to fit into this tool!
(I had to file one down to even get by.)
THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH ZURN BRAND CLAMPS!!!
So, if you know that and you have another store nearby, this is a great product. If all you have is ACE hardware, forget it, man!

My hands are larger than most which should make it worse for those with normal size hands
Received this tool for work needed to be done for the 70 year old house we had purchased. All of the plumbing had been replaced with PEX 5 year prior. Added a laundry sink and hooked the new fridge with both 1/2 and 3/4 inch fittings. The only reason I gave this tool a four is I wish it would start ratcheting when it had a cinch clamp "in hand". Instead you have to hold both handles close to the pivot point to retain the clamp while positioning it and holding the subject pipe/fitting. My hands are larger than most which should make it worse for those with normal size hands. You Do have to use both hands to cinch it but none of my fittings leaked, which was the point. Definitely a good buy.
