Not copper wire.
The wire is not copper. I don't they ever claimed it to be, but copper was what I expected. I should have known better for the price. It looks like copper and is may be flash plated with copper, but the cross-section is actually white metal. It could be zinc, which is cheaper than copper. I tried to crimp connectors on this wire and many of them failed due to the soft metal. The insulation is fine for low voltage applications, like speakers, but it is fairly stiff and yet may not take the wattage you think it will based on copper wire ratings. I think I can make it work by soldering the connections and using it for lower current DC applications. For me, this cheap alternative is turning out to be expensive as I wasted several Power Pole connectors that just pulled out. As another reported, I also don't think the gauge number is quite right either, but it is hard to tell when the wire is stranded with small wires and they break easily. My stripper tool suggests maybe #14. I learned my lesson and won't buy this wire again.

Good but lighter gauge than noted
By Amazon Customer
I purchased this wire for DC power applications. The conductor diameter is .0640 inches, which puts it at most, 14 gauge, not 12 as the jacket is marked. I doubt anyone using this as speaker wire will mind, but I would not recommend treating it as 12 ga as far as DC current capacity is concerned. Fast shipping and still a reasonable price for 14 ga. but should be marked as such.

Good wire, good price
I'm actually not using this as speaker wire but as 12v power wire. It's working great, no complaints, it's better quality than I expected, and at a great price. I'll be buying this again in the near future.
