Excellent Tape - Read the Instructions
This tape is excellent in my experience and consistently feeds up through insulation, finds its way around studs and pipes, and gets the job done. Your first instinct will be to using the rotary crank on the side of the tape to attempt to unwind the tape but it clearly says in the instructions that this crank is only for winding the tape back in. You're supposed to feed the tape out by hand. I think most of the negative reviews for this tape are the result of people skipping over that little piece of information.

You get what you pay for does not apply here. Some say it is a little difficult to unwind, but I don't know what they mean by difficult. You have to apply a little force to unwind it but nothing out of the ordinary. I did not struggle to pull it out, nor did I expect it to automatically unwind. Cheap price, not a cheap product. Used it to run cat-5 and RG6 to my basement from the first floor. Works perfectly, and better than my 100 dollar fiberglass rods that I have to screw together every 6 feet and spend hours removing fiberglass splinters from my hands.

Plastic tip breaks off easily.
The loop on the plastic tip broke during the 3rd use, then the whole tip broke off when winding the tape into the reel, and is no longer retractable, or usable at all, for anything. And I'm only half-way done with the job, and have to drop everything and go buy a new one...
The reel design seemed crazy to me from the start... You have to give it a 1/4 turn, then pull out the tape manually. The reel doesn't ever really lock the tape in-place to make pulling easier, so I don't know what the mechanism is actually supposed to accomplish.
The handle and crank sticking out either side just make it awful to try and pack or stack it with other items, and prevents it from setting flat where you want, while you're working.
I bought it because of the glowing reviews here, but I'm returning it now, and will be buying something else with a steel tip. After a few uses, I'm much happier all-around with this even-less expensive, more conventional fish-tape: 50 FT Fish Tape with High Impact Case for Electric or Communication Wire Puller
