This drill's got a neat little feature that practically doubles its utility, so it's like having two drills at the ready with different bits in place. Black & Decker's clever Quick Connect system is built onto a powerful 18-volt drill which sets this tool apart from its peers. It's got all the expected features, of course, like variable speed, a 24-position clutch to keep your from over-torquing and stripping a fastener (or burying it too deep in your workpiece), built-in bit storage, and a comfortable grip. We also liked how easily the battery changes out—-no manhandling required. But it's the Quick Connect feature that really caught our eye. Its perfect application is predrilling and driving screws: your drill bit loads in the outer 3/8-inch chuck, with your hex shank driver bit in the interior. Drill the pilot hole, click off the outer chuck, drive your screw, and snap the chuck back on. It's really quite a kick. The outer chuck seats securely and releases with the press of a button in less than a second, exposing the driver chuck. We can imagine making great use of this hanging a house full of window treatments, building a go-kart with the kids, installing shelves or closet systems, and a laundry-list of other household and do-it-yourself tasks. You'll reach for this handy stud finder often, so keep a stash of AA batteries for it. The sensor has both visual and sound alerts when it detects the edge of a stud, even in a wall that's up to 3/4-inch thick.
