New homeowner, new graduate, newly single—this is the perfect drill package. It's powerful enough for whatever do-it-yourself tasks are on your list, but not such a monster that even the most petite couldn't handle it. It's got a nice ergonomic grip, and it's extremely well balanced. Max rpm is 750 and torque tops out at 110 inch-pounds, and the homeowner or do-it-yourselfer really doesn't need to buy (and pay for) more than that. A nice feature is the 24-position clutch, which adjusts torque to keep you from accidentally stripping your screws. You'll reach for this handy stud finder often, so keep a stash of AA batteries for it. The sensor has both visual and sound alerts when it detects the edge of a stud, even in a wall that's up to 3/4-inch thick. This is a smart combo for a super-smart price.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
