When it comes to recip saws, Milwaukee is the undisputed king, the "Sawzall" name serving almost as a generic label for all reciprocating saws (to Milwaukee's chagrin, we're sure). The flattery is completely deserved, especially when you factor this model into the mix. It's the only cordless recip saw we've seen with orbital blade action for serious cutting jobs, yet it weighs under 6 pounds. Plus, it's incredibly compact and actually fits between 16-inch-on-center studs. Milwaukee's clever reversible battery mount lets you get into spaces other recips can only growl at. Adding to its charm is a six-position handle for even the most awkward cutting angles. And it cuts at an impressive 0 to 2,700 strokes per minute. Milwaukee says their Hatchet will cut up to 85 2x4's on a single charge, but we have to admit we didn't test that capability. Milwaukee's Quik-Lok tool-free blade clamp is a breeze to use, and it takes universal 1/2-inch shank Sawzall blades. Tight quarters? Just reverse the blade. The other tool in the set, the Lok-Tor Hammer Drill, is the king of torque. Milwaukee's Lok-Tor models have an all-metal, single-sleeve ratcheting chuck with carbide jaws, so you know the grip is the ultimate. It has to be, because this drill stands ready to deliver 495 inch/pounds of torque. It feels great in hand, thanks to Milwaukee's thoughtfully designed grip and auxiliary handle.
