Powered by a quiet 96-watt motor, this 16-inch stand fan tilts, oscillates smoothly and widely, and adjusts to three speed settings. A telescoping pole permits you to set the fan at any height between 33 and 45 inches, and a twist of a knob locks the fan in place. Another knob turns oscillation on and off, and a third knob regulates speed. With the pole and base clad in shiny chrome and a black plastic ring encircling the grill, the fan has a contemporary look, though with a bow to the chrome-happy '50s. Assembly is simple, and requires only pliers and a screwdriver to tighten one nut and one screw during six assembly steps. The fan carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
