The prospect of a water leak is bad enough, but a sneaky water leak--the kind that goes undetected until the otherwise preventable damage is beyond the point of quick repair--is far worse. Sonin's wireless water alarm, with its transmitter range of up to 50 feet, will fix this problem by alerting you to leaks near your hot water heater, washing machine, dishwasher, sump pump, or other water-bearing unit. You can even use it when filling a tub or a swimming pool; when the mountable sensor detects water, the alarm goes off. It's easy to use, too: simply mount the remote sensor in the desired location, hang the transmitter within 6 feet, and place the receiver within your range of hearing. The unit comes with an AC adapter but can also be powered by batteries. In the event of a leak or overflow, the alarm will sound for up to three days (provided no one responds initially). The wireless water alarm also comes with a security code setting to avoid false triggering. --Rivers Janssen
